Shortening the LIST
— 06/19/10
June is flying by us but as we sit and think back to the first of the year - so much has been accomplished on the new house project! Here is what has been done:
*All the cupboards and build-ins are complete (minus their final doors and hardware)
*Granite counters are all installed in the laundry, kitchenette upstairs, and in the kitchen and dining buffet
*All the outside trim work, faschia and soffits, ridgevent and such are completed
*All the exterior siding is stained and installed (A long project since it was one oak tree at a time to make our own lap siding!)
*All the interior walls are covered with pine planks
*All the upstairs ceiling is up as of today!!!!!!!!
Here is how far we have come! This literally has been a from scratch house - we bake and cook from scratch and that is how we build too! It is a huge money saver! The sawmill has been such a blessing! Sometimes we don't realize it until we happen into a home improvement store like "LOWES" and see how high just a single board is priced! and we never had to pay anything for our trees - unless you count time as money!

This was 3 years ago around this time of year.
Our first wall went up.

This is this week - June 2010. The siding is complete
and my sweet Seth & helping brothers are dong stonework around my front
door and windows across the front. The front door
is going to be custom-built by Poppee so what you see
now is just a huge stryofoam blockcade to keep it sealed up.

This is what the stacks of ceiling wood look like.
Since they finished the upstairs today - all of this
and 2 more stacks like it have to be sealed with klearkote
and toted back downstairs to go on the downstairs ceilings.
More work for the littler carpenter helpers!

Micah has worked tirelessly on the ceiling!
If you can see closely the entire area close to the front
of the picture is open - it looks down from a balcony
to downstairs- so he and Poppee had to balance on the
walkboards and install all the grooved ceiling for a large
area. I am so thankful for their protection and safety!

This is all the help the youngers and I can do...clean up
the huge messes they make as they build. We are glad to do it!
It makes for good kindling wood too - we are going to help
keep all the neighbors home fires burning this winter!
The list is shortening though some days it just seems to grow longer before
we can complete this huge undertaking and move into our new home.
We still have bathtubs to pour and mold - they are made of cement!
Light fixtures and fans to install
Hardwood floors to refinish
Trim wood to be planed, cut and installed
Faucets and toilets to be hooked up
Porch floor pavers to be molded and set
Cupboard doors to build and install
Interior and Exterior doors to build
So I'll keep you posted on our country home chronicles...it has been an exciting venture!

Marmee
