Country Home Chronicles
— 10/07/08
Certainly a lot of you have been wondering about progress on the home we are building on our wild acres. So a long post to update as I haven't written about this in a long time it seems. Here is the long drawn out timeline!
Late 2000 we purchased the beginning 49 acres of our farm.
During 2001 we remodeled the home on Greene Acres, sold our Greene Acres property and home, sold our Greene Acres Country Market business and poured the foundation for our new home on top of hill on the back 49 acres. Purchased 32 more acres before the year was out.
Early 2002 we moved to the wild acres and into a mobile home on the front 32 acres. It took most of that year to try to establish our surroundings and make everything "home" and get EVERYTHING moved to the acres including our tractor, wood for building the new house that we had been salvaging for the past 2 years and basically just settle in.
2003 found us settled in and the boys and Poppee built our 3000 sqft. barn to hold everything we needed to keep under cover and out of the weather including our white oak wood flooring we got from the ballet studio being demolished and the red oak beams we found at a salvage sale etc.. They used raw cut siding from the sawmill, tin for the roof, and cedar posts and red oak beams for the frames. They built all the truss from scratch from salvaged lumber we got for free from constuction dumpsters.

2004 came and the incredible opporturnity came for us to buy more plots of land that joined our long driveway and had hardwoods, so the house was put on hold and we bought that land - Poppee says "you can always build a house but the land won't always be for sale!" so...house building was put on hold as we used savings to buy plots giving us now a 126 acres. We had saved much of the material from our previous greenhouse and brought it with us so we worked all year building the greenhouse and herb/flower garden!

To be continued........bringing you all thru 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 to date.
This is more for me than you as it helps me see we are slowly, so slowly making progress!
