Mmmm...Tortillas

— 10/30/08
I am an avid 'make-it-from-scratch' cook -- so had to try making my own tortillas years ago....while the family was all growing up and we had 13 round our table we used to do it lots and lots!  I got out of the habit and haven't done it in a while - a long while - and so tonite we decided to pull out the Villaware Tortilla Maker (wonderful little kitchen helper you either love or hate - I love!)

We made from scratch tortilla dough in the BOSCH mixer and then the kiddos had a ball squishing them down and watching them cook.

Here is how they looked after we pinched off the balls of dough before popping them onto the tortilla maker which presses and makes them flat and round  sort of round?) You can definitely tell they are not manufactured by an automated machine -- they are just unique and tasty homemade creations! I heavily floured mine as the dough was pretty sticky - I didn't measure my water exactly - tsk! tsk!

We keep ours under a damp clean cloth to keep them soft and warm while we are making them all.

The recipe I make is from "Martha's Family Cookery Book" and is wonderful!  I challenge you to try a homemade from scratch one beside a store bought one anyday...I am confident your homemade ones using this recipe will win the taste test every time!
