Onions on the Sill?

— 04/16/09
Now isn't this a dandy way to multiply green onions?  We love them chopped up in our salads, as a side for our taco meals and sprinkled on a baked potato and more!  I have a bunch of rows of them growing in my garden I started from seeds but they are still too small to snip or pick.  I bought a bunch at the grocery store the other day and washed and chopped them to go with our meal.  I saved the very bottom root part with about 2" of white onion still attached to the root.  I put them in water as you see here in the picture.

All the green part you see in the picture is new growth!  So in another week or so I should have a whole new bunch of green onions!  And all I did was put the root into the little pitcher. I keep the water fresh and keep it on my kitchen sill. Try it if you like fresh green onions!

From my kitchen,
Marmee
