Country Home Chronicles

I thought it was past time to update you on the new house building project! So much work has been done in the past months that isn't visible but must be done for all the modern conveniences!
Plumbing pipes in all the walls -
Much of our wood that Poppee has cut from the sawmill had to be hauled to the next town and run thru a straight liner and planer and moulder to make the ship-lap grooves so the boards will fit together nicely for the walls. That has taken a major amount of time stacking and hauling and loading and unloading!
Now we are finally seeing visible progress! Have a peek! We have no sheetrock wall board etc..in the entire house. It is all wood that the boys and Poppee have cut from trees they have gathered from here and yonder and hauled in and made lumber on our TimberKing Sawmill!!

This is a view from upstairs near the area where the balcony will overlook the living room and front entry. We will be leaving the wood (walls are pine) as is only with a clear sealant to let the natural colors and grain and knots of the wood show through.

We have unique bathrooms!! Poppee has designed cedar shower stalls with formed cemented bottoms and sides up to bath water level. The boys have been making little cubby shelves and built-in toothbrush holders on the outsides and we will add wrought iron towel racks and hooks.
It is really hard to get a picture that really shows what they look like - this is the best I could do for now. I love my showerheads as they remind me of great big sprinkler from an old rusted watering can! We have coated the cedar plank with waterproofing sealant on the back and front and will continue to give it coats of sealer until we get a hard sealed finish. I told Poppee that it was really hard to even describe or picture them -- he says "Greene showers can't be described - they have to be experienced!" He has such a hilarious sense of humor sometimes!

another view of a nearly completed interior wall upstairs - this one is in the gathering/play room.
Plumbing pipes in all the walls -
Water lines run underground -
Wiring for all the electric appliances and lights -
Insulation for the walls and ceilings and attic
Installation of the central AC and Heat unit
Installation of the central vacuum system - whoohoo!

We have been sweeping and washing up windows even though it will have to be many times over
again before we complete the construction. And we love to dream of what it will be like to make it our own "home-sweet-home".
