Potty Training Advice

ADVICE FROM A MOMMY ABOUT POTTY TRAINING

First off, let me say that I am in NO WAY a potty training expert. I do have some tips that seemed to help with number 3 child, by far the easiest to train.

1. Juice them up...this makes them need to go potty more frequently, thus more practicing. (In the first few days they are allowed unlimited drinks in the sippy cup.)

2. Don't use pull-ups...they are just too much like a diaper and there is no real consequence if you have an accident.

3. Buy a timer or watch with a timer so that you won't forget to take them regularly. I set the timer for 15 minutes at first and gradually stretched it out as I saw her progress. My friend had a watch with a timer, so her potty training didn't end when she was running errands, at church, etc.

4. Buy regular underwear a size bigger. This way they can learn to pull up their own pants and eventually potty independently. (I started w/ potty trainee only wearing a t-shirt and undies to make it as simple as possible.)

5. Start off by staying home and not going anywhere for a few days, limiting them to tile only areas of the house.

For other ideas like this you can read, How to Potty Train Your Child in a Day. It has a nifty little test to see if you child is ready to potty train or not. Hope some of this is helpful!

NOTE from Marmee: I have successfully potty trained 11 children ~ Whoohooo! They are now aged 28 to 8 and all are potty trained LOL! LOL! I think it is more of a mommy training time than for the child - all of the above is great advice and pretty much is how I suceeded! If you are in the middle of it -- don't give up! I always said when mine were little -- "I am sure they won't be taking their plastic pants with them to college!" It proved to be true. :)
